A few weeks ago, I was driving down 170 street, in Edmonton, and I ended up driving behind a slow driver. When I drive, I see the maximum speed limit as a minimum speed limit, and I naturally add 5-10km/hr. to my speed depending on where I’m driving. On this particular day, I was driving on a 60km/hr road and the driver in front of me was driving at about 55km/hr. Unfortunately for me, I was not able to switch to another lane because of the traffic flow. In my moment of frustration at this driver, I had a revelation; life’s journey is a lot like driving.
- Just because we are facing the same direction, it does not mean we are going to the same destination.
- Even when we are on the same road, looking at the same speed limit, our speeds will vary. Some will go fast, some will go slow, some will go at the recommended speed limit.
- There are people or vehicles that will block your attempts to overtake other vehicles.
- Sometimes you will have to find an alternative route because of traffic or accidents or construction.
Point 1 and 2 go hand in hand. Your path is not the same as everyone. Just because you are the same age or siblings or friends with someone, it does not mean you will accomplish the same things at the same rate.
Point 3 and 4 also go together. In life, you will have people who will block you from achieving your goal(s). You will meet unexpected obstacles that will derail your plans or completely change them.
The Bible says:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
The “you” in this verse is singular and not plural. God is talking to YOU. Your plans and path as an individual are custom made for you. It is easier said than done, however, trust the process and believe that God has a specific plan for “you”.
