I Do

It is a Sunday evening.

The sun was going down through a thin lining of clouds casting beautiful orange-yellow bluish rays. Jay and Peace sat on a rock and their eyes were fixed on the river nearby that was flowing with loud rumbles of noise.

It had been raining all day long.

Jay lifted her eyes and gazed at her boyfriend Peace, who also looked up at her with loving eyes. Peace was a handsome, well-groomed guy who had been brought up by both parents – they lived a lavish life.

Unfortunately, Jay was an orphaned child who was raised by her sickly grandmother. It was a tough life for her. Today Jay is a strikingly beautiful young lady, poorly dressed and under-educated with no post-secondary education, whilst Peace is at University studying to be a Doctor.

“Love, do you intend to keep on loving me even after you become a doctor?” Jay asked. “I DO” answered Peace. They just fell into each others’ arms. These two were in love.

Four Years Later

Peace studied hard and completed his course. He became a very well-known, respected doctor who did his job professionally with passion and dedication at a local hospital. Peace helped Jay to upgrade her education. He paid for her fees and well-being out of love and care.

Two months after, Jay graduated as a Registered nurse and was already employed at the same hospital, tragedy struck. Peace was leaving the hospital and going home after a long day of work when his car was struck by a drunken driver head-on.

Peace was declared paralyzed from the waist going down. Jay was always on Peace s side and was always positive. This day Jay entered the Peace room and cheerfully said, “Hy Love, look what I brought for your lunch. Your favorite fried rice and beef stew!” To her disappointment Peace turned his head and looked away from her.

Jay was a bit disappointed but did not show it and asked, “What is the matter love? Are you in so much pain today?” Peace turned his head towards her and stared at her for a long time. Finally, he said, “Jay, you do not deserve me. Look at me, lying all the time on a bed. I cannot help myself, I am just useless and I will be bound to a wheelchair and a bed forever. Do you want to stick to such a wreck like me?”

With that, tears streamed down Jay’s cheeks. Jay got closer to the love of her life, kissed him lightly on the cheeks while holding his hand, and said “I DO”.

As you read this today, I am glad to tell you that Jay and Peace declared their I DOs six months later. Peace underwent surgery that saw him walking with a cane Jay is always supportive and they are looking forward to Peace s full recovery soon. Which is so promising. In the meantime, they meant it when they said, “I DO” in front of 200 guests.
